HIJOO MOON was born in Incheon, South-Korea. She began taking piano lessons with Professors Ju-On Jun and Hee-Kyung Jun at the age of eight. From 1986 to 1990 she studied at the Seoul Theological University: organ, harpsichord, piano, conducting, theology and church music (Bachelor’s Degree). From 1991 to 1993 she studied with Prof. Zsigmond Szathmáry at the University of Music in Freiburg (Master’s Degree). From 1993 to 1994 she studied with Prof. Rocus van den Heuvel at the Utrecht Conservatory (Soloist Diploma). She has participated in master classes and taken private lessons with Wolfgang Zerer (Hamburg), Piet Kee (Haarlem), Klaus-Martin Ziegler (Kassel) and Guy Bovet (Basel) among others. She debuted at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul, South-Korea in 1995. Hijoo Moon has many awards and diplomas; IX Internationale Johann-Sebastian-Bach Wettbewerb Leipzig and Calgary International Organ Festival & Competition. She has given numerous concerts and has made many recordings as an organist, harpsichordist and pianist in her homeland, as well as in Hong Kong, Germany, Denmark, Portugal, the Netherlands, Hungary and Norway. In 1996-97 she was engaged as cantor and organist at Ljan Church in Oslo and in 1997 at the 600-year-old church at Nesodden. She was also artistic director of the Nesodden International Music Festival. In 2005-08 she was as cantor and organist at the famous stave church in Ringebu. Since 2008 she has served as cathedral organist at the Tromsø cathedral, Norway.
Hijoo Moon has received scholarship for artistic and work grants from Troms fylkeskommune in 2013 and Norwegian Council in 2014 and scholarships from Kirkelig arbeidsgiver- og interesseorganisasjon (KA), Musikernes fellesorganisasjon (MFO Troms, Finnmark og Svalbard) og Fond for utøvende kunstnere (Fund for Performing Artists) in 2015.
