Matthias Mück was born in Mainz in 1967. He learnt to play the piano at the age of six. He started singing as a boy soprano in the child and youth choir of Mainz, and this choir was to characterize his career as a church musician for the coming 15 years. He acquired more advanced education in piano playing at the Peter-Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz and as a student of Wilhelm Ohmen, a concert pianist in Mainz. In the years 1982 – 1985, he studied Catholic church music at the Episcopal Church Music Institute of Mainz (C-exam).

In 1983, Mück was appointed to his first organist´s post at the Catholic church of St Bonifatius in Mainz, where he also shouldered the responsibility for the leadership of the church choir in 1990.

From 1990 to 1998, Mück studied Catholic church music, later to do music pedagogics and organ instruction at the Johannes-Gutenberg Universiy in Mainz with Professor Peter-A. Stadtmüller as his mentor, and improvisation with Hans-Jürgen Kaiser (B-exam, 1994). Starting in October1994, he did advanced studies A in church music in the State Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Farnkfurt am Main with Professor Dr Reinhardt Mengerin and Professor Lücker as his mentors and instructors. He passed the A-exam in 1998. Between March1997 and January 2000, he was engaged at the church of St John the Apostle in Frankfurt am Main-Unterliedebach, where he founded  a new concert series at St. John´s. 1998 Mück was trusted the musical leadership of the Catholic church choir of St. Martin´s in Hattersheim am Main.

From March 1997 to January2000, Mück was the second choir master and trainer of the choir of the City of Wiesbaden. Since the summer break of 1999, Mück was again engaged in the advanced studies in concert exam for organ improvisation at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz in the teaching programme of Professor Hans-Jürgen Kaiser (Cathedral organist of Fulda).

In December 2001, Mück passed the concert exam in organ improvisation with distinction at the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz.

His special interest lies with organ improvisation and  ”old music”.

He has participated twice in the International Organ Academy of Nordhein-Westfalen in Altenberg where he has been able to deepen his familiarity with improvisation in the company of international organists.

In February 2000, Matthias Mück was appointed musician and responsible church musician (cantor and organist) at St Sebastian´s cathedral in Magdeburg.

He gives organ concerts regularly in his homeland as well as abroad and is a much wanted accompanist at oratorio concerts (Continuo). He is senior lecturer of church music instruction for part-time church musicians in the diocese of Magdeburg (C-course) with choir leading, history of music. and the organ as his disciplines. He is a member of the episcopal liturgy committee of the diocese of Magdeburg and an elected official in the subcommittee of the diocese council for a new prayer and hymn book. Beginning in 2001, he has been an elected official at the organ department of the Georg-Philipp Telemann Conservatory in Magdeburg. Since the beginning of 2007, he has been an expert at organ in the diocese of Magdeburg.

Matthias Mück on syntynyt Mainzissa vuona 1967. Hän oppi soittamaan pianoa jo 6-vuotiaana. Mainzin lapsi-ja nuorisokanttorit-kuorossa hän aloitti poikasopraanona ja tämä kuoro leimasi häntä kirkkomusiikillisesti 15 vuoden ajan. Lisää piano-opetusta hän sai Mainzin Peter-Cornelius-konservatoriossa sekä mainzilaiselta konserttipianisti Wilhelm Ohmenilta. Vuosina 1982-1985 hän opiskeli katolista kirkkomusiikkia Mainzin piispallisessa kirkkomusiikki-instituutissa (C-tutkinto).

Vuonna 1983 Mück sai ensimmäisen urkurintoimensa Mainzin P. Bonifatiuksen katolisessa kirkossa, jossa hän ryhtyi johtamaan myös kirkkokuoroa vuonna 1990.

Vuosina 1990-1998 Mück opiskeli katolista kirkkomusiikkia. Sittemmin hän opiskeli Mainzin Johannes-Gutenberg-yliopistossa musiikkikasvatusta, urkujensoiton opetusta professori Peter-A. Stadtmüllerin johdolla, improvisaatiota Hans-Jürgen Kaiserin johdolla (B-tutkinto, 1994). Lokakuusta 1994 hän suoritti kirkkomusiikin A-jatko-opintoja Valtion Musiikin ja Esittävien taiteiden korkeakoulussa Farnkfurt am Mainissa professori tri Reinhardt Mengerin ja professori Martin Lückerin johdolla. Hän suoritti siellä A-tutkinnon 1998. Maaliskuusta 1997 tammikuuhun 2000 hän toimi Apostoli Johanneksen kirkossa Frankfurt am Mainissa-Unterliedebach, jossa hän perusti P. Johanneksen kirkkoon uuden konserttisarjan. 1998 Mück otti hoitaakseen Hattersheim am Mainin  P. Martinuksen katolisen kirkkokuoron musikaalisen johdon.

Maaliskuusta 1997 tammikuuhun 2000 Mück toimi Wiesbadenin kaupungin kuoron toisena kuoronjohtajana ja -harjoittajana. Vuoden 1999 kesälomasta asti Mück harjoitti jälleen urkuimprovisaation konserttitutkinnon jatko-opintoja Mainzin Johannes Gutenberg-yliopiston musiikkitieteellisessä professori Hans-Jürgen Kaiserin luokassa (Kaiser oli Fuldan tuomiokirkon urkuri).

Joulukuussa 2001 hän suoritti menestyksellisesti urkuimprovisaation konserttitutkinnon Mainzissa Johannes-Gutenberg-yliopistossa.

Hänen erityinen mielenkiintonsa kohde on urkuimprovisaatio ja ”vanha musiikki”.

Hän on osallistunut kahdesti Nordhein-Westfalenin kansainväliseen Altenbergissa pidettyyn urkuakatemiaan, jossa hän on voinut syventää improvisaatio-osaamistaan kansainvälisten urkurien seurassa.

Helmikuussa 2000 Matthias Mück valittiin Magdeburgin Pyhän Sebastianin katedraalin tuomiokirkon muusikoksi ja vastuulliseksi kirkkomuusikoksi (kanttori ja urkuri).

Hän soittaa säännöllisesti urkukonsertteja niin kotimaassa kuin ulkomaillakin ja on kysytty oratoriokonserttien säestäjä (Continuo). Hän toimii Magdeburgin hiippakunnan sivutoimisten kirkkomuusikkojen opetuksen dosenttina (C-kurssi) opetusaineinaan kuoronjohto, musiikinhistoria ja urut. Hän on Magdeburgin hiippakunnan piispallisen liturgiatoimikunnan jäsen ja hiippakuntavaltuuston uuden rukous- ja virsikirjan alakomitean jäsen Vuodesta 2001 hän on ollut Magdeburgin Georg-Philipp Telemannin konservatorion urkuosaston valtuutettu. Vuoden 2007 alusta asti hän on toiminut Magdeburgin hiippakunnan urkujen ammattiasiantuntijana.
